The hire company and how it works
The hire is provided by Coo Adventure, an independent hire company. On Kayak Ardennes, you pay only the platform fee online (10% of the price). The hire, and any meals, are paid to the hire company on site. The hire contract is concluded directly with them.
Your booking is a request: Coo Adventure confirms the availability of the time slot you chose. Departures are offered from 9:00 to 16:00, every half hour.
The price, per person
Here, the price is calculated per person rather than per boat. The displayed price is €25.30 per person, 10% platform fee included. The hire company charges €23; the difference is that fee, paid online.
| Item | Hire company | Displayed |
|---|---|---|
| Coo – Cheneux trip | €23.00 per person | €25.30 per person |
Meals on request
You can add a meal for each participant. It is paid to the hire company on site, along with the rest of the hire.
| Meal | Price per person |
|---|---|
| Lunch or dish of the day | €20.90 |
| Pizza buffet | €20.90 |
| Prestige grill, 4 meats | €30.80 |
| Surf and turf grill | €37.40 |
Meal prices include the 10% platform fee. On site, the hire company charges the meal at its menu price (€19, €28 or €34); this fee is paid online with the booking.
How the trip runs
- Meet at the activity centre, above the Coo waterfall, next to the Hotel Le Baron.
- Attend the safety briefing and put on the life jacket, which stays fastened for the whole trip.
- Put in and paddle the 9 km of whitewater, about 2 h 15.
- Land at Cheneux. The shuttle then takes participants back to the start.
Skill level and safety
The Amblève is the sportiest of the rivers offered on Kayak Ardennes. This stretch is paddled in whitewater with grade II rapids. It suits adults and teenagers in good shape, even without experience, after the briefing. Being able to swim is essential.
Equipment is provided: kayak, paddle and CE-approved life jacket. Wear synthetic clothing and closed shoes, never flip-flops. Bring sun cream and water. If you capsize, lie on your back with your feet pointing downstream, keep hold of the boat and head for a calm pool.
Flow and regulations
The Amblève is navigable only if the flow measured at Stavelot stays within a narrow range, and only at certain hours. On the day of your trip, check the Amblève water level. The hours, thresholds and the two annual closure days are explained in the Amblève regulations. Bookings are open from April to October.
If you prefer a bus ride back and a longer trip, see the Coo – Coo option.
